1.Introduction
This privacy policy explains how The Harrington guesthouse uses the Ring Doorbell security system installed at the entrance of our property located at The Harrington guesthouse 25 Tolcarne Road Newquay Cornwall TR7 2NQ. The purpose of the Ring Doorbell is to enhance the safety and security of our guests, staff and property.
We are the Data Controller for the personal data collected by the Ring Doorbell.
2.What Data we collect
The Ring Doorbell may capture and process:
- Video recordings of individuals approaching or entering the property.
- Audio recordings of conversation in the immediate vicinity of the device. (The Harrington Guesthouse has turned off this feature and does not take audio recordings)
- Date and time stamp of visits or activity at the entrance.
3.Purpose of processing
We use the data collected for:
- Ensuring the safety and security of our guests and the property.
- Monitoring and preventing unorthorised access or suspicious activity.
- Investigating incidents, complaints or disputes.
- Assisting law enforcement when legally required.
4.Lawful basis for processing
Under the UK GDPR, we rely on:
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f))- our interest in protecting the security of the property and guests.
- Legal obligations (Article 6(1)( c))- where disclosure to law enforcement is required.
5.Data Retention
- Recordings are stored securely through Ring’s encrypted cloud storage.
- Data is retained for a maximum of 24 hours, before being automatically deleted, unless it needs to be kept longer in connection with an incident or legal request.
6.Who has access to the data
- The Harrington Guesthouse Owner Jaqueline Lloyd is the authorized person to access captured data.
- Ring (Amazon) as the service provider for secure storage.
- Law enforcement, when disclosure is legally required.
We do not share, sell or use recordings for marketing or profiling purposes.
7.International Transfers
As Ring is operated by Amazon, data may be transferred outside the UK to secure servers. Amazon ensures that appropriate safeguards are in place in compliance with UK GDPR.
8.Your Rights
Under the UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Request access to footage in which you appear.
- Request correction of deletion of your personal data (subject to legal and security considerations).
- Object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
- Lodge a complaint with information commissioner’s office (ICO) if you believe your rights have been infringed.
9.Singage and Notification
Clear signage is displayed at the property entrance to notify all guests and visitors that video and audio recording is in operation.
Please note that The Harrington Guesthouse has disabled the audio recording feature and only video recordings are captured.
